The Pilots


David Kew
Former training manager, David first flew as a passenger in a balloon in 1987. He started to crew for the business in 1990 and trained with us for his private pilots licence in June 1991. He obtained his Commercial Licence in October 1992 and became a full time professional pilot. He has now flown over 600 hours on 180, 210 and 250 balloons, mainly in the UK but also in France and the USA.

Steve McCarthy
Steve and his wife Jane have been with the business since its inception and still crew for us today. Steve was trained to private pilot standard in 1993 and obtained his commercial rating in 1996. He now trains our other crew members to fly and also pilots our 180 at weekends and evenings as a break from his job as an IT Manager.

Les Purfield
Les has been in ballooning since 1972 and has flown over 1600 hours on all types and sizes of balloons. He has recently directed the ballooning section of the World Air Games in Turkey. He flies for us as a relief pilot on a regular basis.

The Crew

A motley bunch, "the men and women in black", too numerous to mention but all balloon enthusiasts. Many of them are private pilots or in training, and all are experienced and trained to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable flight.
